    Hearty Soles Hike Alder Springs

    Meet at 8:30 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church
    Destination: Alder Springs Trail (17 miles NE of Sisters – 1 hour from Sunriver)
    Distance: 6 miles round trip (one reference says 7.2)
    Elevation Loss/Gain: 650 ft (one references says 910)
    Difficult creek crossing (~15 ft across, knee deep or more, with a swift current)
    Bring: Water shoes & towel, hiking poles, lunch, water, Care & Share soap, and $3 for driver.

    Striking geology and wildflowers are both featured on this hike. It starts on a desert plateau then descends 450 ft steeply into Whychus Canyon to Alder Springs and crosses Whychus Creek at 1.4 miles.  It continues down 200 ft &1.6 miles along Whychus Creek on a rocky trail to the confluence of the Deschutes River where we will eat lunch and return the same way. High clearance vehicles required for the 4-mile jeep trail to trailhead. No restrooms.

    MAY PROGRAM: ANNUAL GIVING LUNCHEON CELEBRATING SRWC PHILANTHROPY!
    It is the highlight of the year for SRWC Philanthropy efforts! And this year is a record year for the amount of funds that will be distributed to the community. The Philanthropy Grant recipients for 2019 will be announced and introduced at the SRWC Giving Luncheon. This is a celebration of not only the recipients, but of the SRWC sponsors and members in their continued work and support to produce funds for the Philanthropy Program!  The Power of 100 program recipient will be announced and the new Board of Directors will be installed. It is a luncheon members will not want to miss! Come help us celebrate with a buffet lunch and great program!NOTE: Options to reserve your place are :

    May 25, 11 am-4:00 pm:  Hooray for Kid’s Day! The smiling faces of the SRWC will be selling tickets under two tents. Signage will indicate the number of needed tickets for each activity. Proceeds benefit non-profits in south Deschutes County.
