Sunriver Women’s Club
January 2018 Newsletter
A new year and new opportunities to get more involved in your community.
The SRWC functions as it does and provides great community benefits because of the women who jump in and volunteer to coordinate events and activities. Right now we have two critical positions that need to be filled.
Winter Gala Coordinator(s): Don’t look at this one and think it’s too much to take on. Ann Juttelstad and Laura Sherar did a fantastic job this year creating a magical evening! Behind the scenes, they have also created a plan – to be passed on to the next coordinator(s) – that should make planning the 2018 event easier than ever. There are volunteers ready to take on various aspects of the event, but we need a leader or two! The Winter Gala is our second biggest fundraiser of the year. Please consider jumping in and making a difference.
Mid-Soles Hiking Group: We have the Hearty Soles (hiking), we have the Soft Soles (walking). Now we’re adding a mid-range group that will do moderate hikes – shorter and less intense than the Hearty Soles, but a little more challenging than the Soft Soles’ walks. In order to get this new group up and running, we need a coordinator. The coordinator does not have to plan every hike, simply be the contact point and coordinate the group for suggestions and volunteers for hikes throughout the hiking season.
Martin Luther King, Jr., said, “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is: What are you doing for others?” Make 2018 the year you “Jump on in” and get more involved. You can contact me directly at Debbie.firstname.lastname@example.org to let me know how you’d like to help SRWC in 2018.

On December 11th everyone arrived at the Great Hall ready for a good time and that’s what happened; great friends, food, music! Reindeers were seen romping thru the Great Hall — oh, that may have been an energetic Raffle ticket seller or someone on the dance floor! Thanks to everyone that attended, volunteered, donated items, services or money. You made this a very successful event and will contribute nicely to our Philanthropy fund, supporting grants in 2018.
Photos of the event have been posted on line at http://www.sunriverwomensclub.com/winter-gala/
Whether you’ve decided to “Jump on in” or are still just getting your feet wet, we’d like to talk to you and get to know you better. Almost a third of our SRWC membership is new in the last five years; it would be fitting for the Board of Directors to also reflect that. The way to infuse the Board with novel ideas, new involvement and fresh ways of thinking is to add new Directors and Assistants to the established team.
The Nominating Committee is organizing a proposed slate of officers for the 2018 Board and there are still a couple of areas where we could use your experience or enthusiasm. If you would like to explore the opportunities, contact Stephanie Nelson at 541-593-4663 or firstname.lastname@example.org. The service year runs from mid-May to mid-May. Elections are held at the Annual Meeting in April; the proposed slate is announced in March. Come share your voice!
Sandra Lassen is organizing a no host luncheon for the members who have January birthdays. Watch for your invitation.
Saturday January 20, 2 p.m.: The first 2018 Loose Cannon event will be attending a Central Oregon Symphony Spotlight Recital, the Bend Cello Collective, at Wille Hall on C.O.C.C. campus. Admittance is free, no tickets required. Contact Christie Johnson at: email@example.com.

Coats for Kids
January means great sales on all winter wear items so there is still time to SHOP! Coats, snow pants, hats, gloves, boots and sweat pants are all needed. The final collection of winter wear items for the children in Deschutes County will be at the January luncheon. I will be shopping one last time after the luncheon so remember you can always make a monetary donation – make checks payable to SRWC with a notation Coats for Kids and mail to SRWC, PO Box 3334, Sunriver, OR 97707 or give directly at the luncheon. If you have any questions or would like to drop off items at my home call me at 610-349-0687. Thank you so much for all your generous support for this special program!

The Sunriver Art Fair was listed for the second year in a row as the Favorite Small Town Art Fair by ArtFairCalendar.com, a very influential site for art fairs across the country! Thank you everyone for voting for us online! It’s a great honor to be listed.
The Marketing & Publicity team is already printing our advertising cards for the 2018 Art Fair and we need volunteers to help distribute them to local establishments. It’s an easy way to volunteer, requires no experience and helps get the word out! Send an email to email@example.com to learn more about volunteer opportunities during the planning phase as well as during the event.
If you haven’t yet renewed your membership for 2017-2018 it’s not too late!
Open to all women in Sunriver and the surrounding communities. Active memberships are $25 and an Associate membership is $35. Applications are available on our website: http://www.sunriverwomensclub.com. For more information, contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
