President’s Message
As the SRWC President, I’m hosting a new member event this week. It’s an opportunity for new members to meet some other new members, to learn about our programs, and to, hopefully, “Jump on in!” As I’ve thought about this event and next month’s Winter Gala, I’m amazed at my own SRWC story this past year.

Last year my husband, one of our sons and his wife, and I attended the Winter Gala for the first time. We didn’t really know anyone, but we went, met new people at our table, had a fabulous time, and danced the night away! Now, a year later, I’m the President of the Club, I’ve met many fabulous women, and I’m hosting a new member event!

If you or a woman you know is looking to meet new people and get involved in our community (remember, the SRWC is for women throughout the area, not just Sunriver), “Jump on in!” and attend an event. See the information below on next month’s Winter Gala – not only is it a wonderfully fun evening and a great way to get in the holiday spirit, but it’s also the second biggest fund raiser for our philanthropy program. Put on your party duds and join us for a little “Reindeer Romp”.

RENEE PATRICK: Backpacker – Pack Rafter – Adventurer  is our guest speaker at the SRWC luncheon on November 14.
Renee Patrick brings extensive long-distance hiking experience and a love of the high desert to the role of the Oregon Desert Trail Coordinator of the Oregon Natural Desert Association. She has backpacked over 10,000 miles which includes the Appalachian Trail, the Pacific Crest Trail and the Continental Divide. Renee has also acted as the Continental Divide Trail’s first Trail Ambassador and guided wilderness therapy trips.
Renee’s goal as Oregon’s Desert Trail Coordinator is to establish a long-distance 750 mile trail through the eastern desert of Oregon.
When not sleeping on the ground and covering 30 miles a day, Renee can be found pack rafting, skiing, biking or hiking around Central Oregon. Her love of the high desert translates into a desire to get outside as much as possible and to inspire others to do the same.
Renee’s early days in the Peace Corps made her comfortable being dirty and she learned to go without electricity or running water. She fell in love with adventuring and recognized this was what she was meant to do.
Before coming to Bend, Rene worked at the Smithsonian and received her Master’s degree at Goldsmiths College in London
